Feeling tired for no apparent reason?
An increasing body of research indicates effects of environmental contaminants on thyroid gland function. In response to a Congressional mandate, the EPA formed a special committee to investigate, which recommended that it address the effects of pesticides, commercial chemicals, and other environmental contaminants on the endocrine system, which comprises the body's hormones and glands. Abundant evidence from wildlife and laboratory animal research indicates that environmental chemicals do disrupt thyroid function.

What You Can Do
-A simple blood test indicates whether the thyroid is working properly. If you suspect you have a thyroid problem, ask your doctor.
-Check your neck regularly for thyroid nodules.
-Get the right amount and type of iodine. Eat wild caught fish, enjoy sea vegetables, and use naturally iodine rich sea salt.
-If you live in an area where perchlorate has contaminated drinking-water supplies, have your water tested and invest in a high quality reverse-osmosis or distillation water filtration system for your home.
-Gamma radiation, including X rays, are a known cause of human thyroid cancer. Shield yourself from radiation during routine dental X-rays. Make sure your thyroid is covered by a protective apron.
-Given the prevalence of thyroid problems, it is suggested that we avoid needless exposures to contaminants.
-Love your thyroid by taking excellent care of it!
